I was in the release function of the book “Voices within” at gayana samaja Bangalore. The book is written by TMK, Bombay Jayashree and Mythili Chandrashekhar.
It was unique and fantastic. The program featured three major portions.
Reading
Screening
Concert
The reading was theatrical. Karthik Iyer, T. M. Krishna and Bombay Jayashree read the excerpts from the book with interplay by lighting. It was awesome and moving.
The concert was awesome and my soul is still dancing in joy after listening to it. The concert list was this :
Kalyani Varna Aadi tala (dedicated to Ariyakudi )
Deva Deva Kalayaami (dedicated to Semmangudi maama)
Raaga Sudhaarasa (dedicated to GNB)
Sujana Jeevana (dedicated to Mali)
Ninne nammi nanu (dedicated to Rajaratnam Pillai)
Ranga Pura vihaara (dedicated to MS)
Maitreem Bhajata (dedicated to MS again)
Each and every part of the concert was amazing. Kalyani was robust. Deva Deva was enthralling with the nirevl and kalpana swara, Raaga Sudharasa was enchanting and energetic, Sujana Jeevana was emotional and romantic, Todi was mind boggling and exuberant!
Special Points :
Bombay Jayshree sang in a very unusual manly way and it sounded awesome contrary to her usual sober style which is fine too!
Arun Prakash played like god! Especially for the nireval, it was as if Phalghat Mani Iyer had blessed him just then!
TMK was good at everything!!! He was awesome!!
The main attraction of the day was an amazng movie called “Shadows on the wall and voices within” by Rajeev Menon. Amazing visuals, wonderful narrative and semioticaly profound. It created moments of Nostalgia and I was lost . . .
a
I now miss being in that Era, I wonder if I were alive then? I definitely must have listened to all the masters from close! Otherwise it is impossible that they are with me all the time now, as apart of my music, my persona and as a part of my self!!
